What steps should be taken before the procedure?

Please stay out of the sun for a week before (and after) your appointment. Discontinue the use of retinol and AHAs/BHAs a week before your appointment as well. Antibiotics can make you photosensitive, which could increase your chances of burning, so if you are on antibiotics, we request that you wait 2 weeks after finishing them before you are treated.

What should I expect during and after the Lumecca?

During treatment there will be a bright flash of light from the Lumecca that feels like a light elastic sensation. Redness and a slight warming of the skin are normal after treatment and usually subsides within an hour. Over the next 24-48 hours you may see a darkening of pigmented spots. In the week afterwards the pigmented lesions flake off leading to an evening out of skin tone. After treating vascular lesions you may see the veins blanch and disappear or a color change in the vessel which dissipates after a few days.

Is there downtime? Does it hurt?

Intense Pulse Laser can be a little uncomfortable, but we will adjust our settings to meet your comfort level. You may feel heat, but most patients don’t complain that the procedure s too painful.

How many treatments will I need?

Improved skin appearance can be noted after the first session and multiple sessions provide even better results. Treatment regime’s depend on the severity of skin damage, type of treatment (vascular vs. sun damage) and energy settings. Lumecca Intense Pulse Laser has long-lasting results, but won’t stop your skin from incurring further sun damage, so these treatments are great for skin maintenance or for recovery after summer each year.

How quickly will I see results?

Sun damage and skin complexion results can be seen a few days after the first session. The skin will continue to look younger and more brilliant over time with most visible results after 1-2 weeks. Having multiple Intense Pulse Laser sessions will improve the final result. For vascular treatments such as spider or leg veins, results can be seen immediately in up to two weeks.
